In response to the heavy snowfall in Western Georgia, defence forces units are actively engaged in six key areas to mitigate the challenges posed by the severe weather conditions and to assist affected residents, the Georgian Defence Ministry said on Wednesday.
“Since early this morning, military personnel have been deployed with the necessary technical equipment to all critical locations where civilians require assistance”, the statement said.
The Ministry noted that the armed forces were fully involved in disaster relief efforts, utilising both personnel and specialised machinery, with the representatives of the defence forces working in constant coordination with the Ministry of Internal Affairs' emergency rescue services to ensure effective assistance to the local population.
The Minister of Defence Irakli Chikovani is currently in the Guria region, overseeing the operations. The defence forces' involvement in aiding the affected population began yesterday, following an order from the Prime Minister of Georgia.
