Rati Ionatamishvili, the Chair of the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday said that the statement by the European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos regarding potential limitations on the veto rights of future EU member states was another example of how European bureaucrats do not take the idea and values of the European Union seriously.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Ionatamishvili noted that the idea that each EU member state has the right of veto is one of the most fundamental values of the European Union.
“This is another example of how European bureaucrats do not take the ideas and values of the European Union seriously. In fact, first of all, the accession of any candidate country is a very distant prospect for them, and then they even dare to say that they view any of these states as inferior. In fact, the idea that each country has the right of veto is one of the most fundamental values of the European Union, and when you go against it, you are actually opposing the very germ from which the European Union itself comes. In other words, you are opposing the values of the European Union, its past, and at the same time, you are entering into conflict”, he said.
