Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday criticised a new resolution that the Council of Europe plans to discuss, saying it is aimed solely at creating “informational noise” and further accusing certain European politicians of pursuing policies that harm Georgia.
“We have enemies of this country in Europe who, unfortunately, directly seek to damage our nation. First and foremost, Brussels must end this hostile policy. It is in Brussels’ hands to stop pursuing a hostile policy toward Georgia”, Papuashvili said, commenting on the upcoming resolution, one of whose authors is MEP Rasa Juknevičienė.
In his remarks, Papuashvili noted that Brussels is obliged to respect its commitments under the Association Agreement and cease “a hostile policy” toward the Georgian people.
“When Brussels takes hostile steps against a candidate country, this is incompatible with the obligations it has undertaken toward the Georgian people through the Association Agreement. Therefore, pursuing a hostile policy under the framework of the Association Agreement constitutes a violation of the Agreement itself and demonstrates disrespect toward Georgia as a candidate country. It is important that this hostile policy against the Georgian people comes to an end”, the Speaker concluded.
