Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Wednesday said that Georgia’s goal of joining the European Union remains firm, but only as a fully reunified state that includes Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Samkharadze discussed Georgia’s foreign policy direction, linking the country’s EU integration ambitions with its territorial integrity position.
“We are an independent, self-sufficient nation. Accordingly, we have chosen an independent foreign policy. Therefore, although our desire is to join the European Union, we want to join as a united, strong Georgia, including Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region”, he said.
