Davit Matikashvili, the Chair of the Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday commented on the US State Department delegation’s statement concerning the restoration of Georgia-US relations, saying that this is what the Georgian authorities and the citizens have been waiting for for a long time.
“Fair and dignified relations are the essential prerequisite for resetting relations between the United States and Georgia, something we have repeatedly stated in the past. It is encouraging that this very message was reflected in the statements made by State Department representatives during their visit to Georgia”, he said.
“Now, the ball is in the US court, and we expect these words to be translated into real-life action”, Matikashvili concluded.
The US State Department delegation has issued an official statement, published by the US Embassy in Georgia, noting “the Trump administration’s readiness to engage in a constructive, forward-looking relationship with the Government of Georgia, and its interest in starting a new phase in bilateral relations between sovereign partners based on mutual respect, shared interests, and honest dialogue”.
