Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said the law must be enforced against everyone, regardless of whether violence is committed by an ordinary citizen or a representative of a law enforcement body.
Kobakhidze responded to a question regarding the detention of six law enforcement officers in connection with the act of exceeding official powers through violence.
“In order for such violence not to acquire, even potentially, a systemic nature, today’s response, which the public witnessed, was necessary precisely for this reason. Precisely because the state did not respond to such types of violations in due time, we saw arbitrariness increasing under the previous government”, he noted.
“Such immediate response is necessary precisely in order for violence by representatives of law enforcement agencies not to acquire a systemic character. It does not matter who commits violence, whether it is an ordinary citizen or a representative of a law enforcement agency, the law must be enforced against everyone”, Kobakhidze concluded.
