Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Thursday that public support for the ruling political force remains strong, while backing for the opposition is “minimal”, describing this as important for the country’s continued stable development.
Speaking to journalists, the Prime Minister noted the opposition is currently looking for a scapegoat internally following what he described as a failed rally, which he said had led to internal confrontation among opposition groups.
“We warned them that this rally would fail, and you saw that it did fail. It is absolutely logical that when you see weakness, you start looking for a scapegoat within, and this confrontation stems from that”, he said.
He added that the disputes within the opposition were “their own matter”, while emphasising that his Government’s main priority is maintaining strong public support.
“What matters most for us is that society firmly supports our political force. As for the radical opposition, support toward it is minimal, and this is important for the continued stable development of our country”, Kobakhidze concluded.
