Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on Tuesday sent a congratulatory message to his Georgian counterpart Maka Botchorishvili on the occasion of Independence Day, emphasising the traditionally close ties between the Ukrainian and Georgian peoples and expressing appreciation for Georgia’s support for Ukraine.
In his address, Sybiha noted that relations between Ukraine and Georgia have long been based on mutual understanding, support, and respect.
“The traditionally close ties between the Ukrainian and Georgian peoples have long been shaped by mutual understanding, support, and respect. This is particularly important today, given Russia's ongoing full-scale aggression against Ukraine, as well as continued occupation by Russia of parts of Georgia's sovereign territory”, he said.
The top Ukrainian diplomat expressed gratitude for Georgia’s support for Ukraine in international organisations and praised the contribution of Georgian citizens and ethnic Georgians who are fighting in defence of Ukraine.
“We sincerely appreciate Georgia’s support for Ukraine and Ukrainian initiatives within international organisations and pay tribute to the thousands of ethnic Georgians and Georgian citizens standing shoulder to shoulder with Ukrainians and bearing arms to defend Ukraine's independence and to protect our common security”, Sybiha noted.
He also reaffirmed Ukraine’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
“Ukraine supports the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognised borders. I am convinced that, through our joint efforts, the Ukrainian and Georgian peoples will restore their territorial integrity and contribute to the return of peace and stability in the Black Sea region”, he said.
“I wish you every success in your professional endeavours, as well as peace, prosperity, and well-being for Georgia and the Georgian people, Sybiha concluded.
