The European bureaucracy is a hostage to its own injustice and must overcome the “complexes” created by its unfair approach, said on Tuesday Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that relations between Georgia and the European Union could easily be reset if European bureaucracy overcomes these “complexes”.
“The key element in relations is fairness. If relations are not based on fair principles, they have no future. What created the main problem between Georgia and the European Union? Injustice and unfair treatment toward the Georgian people and the Georgian state. There were double standards and entirely unfair assessments. Georgia is the absolute leader among candidate countries in every respect - democratic progress, economic advancement, effective functioning of institutions, and low levels of corruption”, he said.
“Against this backdrop, European bureaucracy decided to change the government in Georgia after we stood firm and refused to join the war. Once that decision was made, injustice became their only instrument for implementing it. The EU ambassador directly interfered in local democratic elections in 2024, openly calling on Georgian voters to mobilize against the government. Foreign ministers of European countries were appearing on stage directly. They became emboldened in their injustice”, the prime minister continued.
Kobakhidze further added that naturally, this created problems and caused a rift in relations.
“Where there is injustice, healthy relations cannot exist. Today, the European bureaucracy is a hostage to its own injustice. They created this cycle themselves and trapped themselves in it. Now they must overcome the complexes created by their own unfairness”, he said.
“If European bureaucracy overcomes its complexes, relations between Georgia and the European Union will be reset very easily. In this regard, our hand is extended, and we will wait for them to free themselves from these complexes”, Kobakhidze concluded.
