Georgian Parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Sunday sharply criticised Peter Fischer, the German Ambassador to Georgia, saying he appears to have “a problem not only with the Vienna Convention, but also with politeness”.
Papuashvili made the remarks while speaking to journalists in response to Fischer’s recent statement that he does not believe any EU member state or ambassador needs an explanation of what Europe is, adding that he was “concerned” by Papuashvili’s comments on the matter.
“I thought Mr. Peter had problems only with the Vienna Convention, but apparently he also has problems with politeness. It is very unfortunate what we are witnessing and what this one individual has done to Georgian-German relations”, the speaker said.
He further added that Georgian society was “eagerly waiting” for Fischer to leave Georgia, noting that only a few weeks remain in the ambassador’s term in the country.
“So, we are waiting for him to leave Georgia and for this episode in Georgian-German relations to be forgotten”, Papuashvili concluded.
