Davit Matikashvili, the chair of the parliamentary committee on procedural issues and rules, on Thursday sharply criticised a report on Georgia prepared by the European Parliament, calling its contents “blatant falsehood” that “cannot withstand any criticism”.
In his remarks, Matikashvili noted that the institution has strayed from its core values and functions.
“The European Parliament has practically distanced itself from the values and responsibilities it is meant to uphold. It has turned into a lobbyist supporting specific forces. Everything written in this resolution is a blatant lie and does not stand up to any criticism”, the official said.
The criticism follows the decision by the European Parliament’s foreign affairs committee to back a report authored by Rasa Juknevičienė. The report includes calls for personal sanctions and demands punitive measures against three independent television companies in Georgia.
