Kakha Kaladze, the mayor of Tbilisi and secretary general of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday commented on the messages aired in the debut program of the Georgian-language service of Poland’s Public Broadcaster, saying it is “regrettable” that such developments are taking place in a country he described as Georgia’s friend.
In his remarks, Kaladze noted that it was particularly surprising that the initiative was funded from the Polish state budget.
“Poland is our friendly country, and it is regrettable when such actions take place. It is even more surprising that this is funded from the state budget and is directed toward an attack on the Georgian Church in Georgia, which is Poland’s friendly country. They have been involved in hostile activities, and this is very unfortunate”, he said.
The mayor added that he expected clarification and possible steps to regulate the situation.
Kaladze further referred to developments in Georgia in recent years, claiming that attempts to create internal divisions and political instability were externally driven and financed.
He stated that Georgian security services were “on alert” and would not allow any externally funded attempts to organise unrest, a coup, or revolution in the country.
