Giorgi Gabunia, the chair of the culture committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Tuesday criticised the current state of the domestic opposition alliance, labeling their internal conflicts as irrelevant to the Georgian public.
Speaking with the media regarding the ongoing rift within the opposition ranks, Gabunia suggested that the political minority has lost its standing with the electorate.
“The opposition is in a ridiculous situation, and I think they have exhausted all their resources in the eyes of the public”, the official said.
He further emphasised that whether these groups decide to unite or dismantle their alliances, the Georgian society has largely become indifferent to their maneuvers.
“Today, the opposition has two feelings at heart: one is the thirst to seize power, and the other is a complex tied to Saakashvili’s dictatorial character. In its ideas, objectives, and goals, this is a single political force with one political leader - Saakashvili. Whether they quarrel now or reconcile is no longer interesting to the public”, he concluded.
