Kakha Kaladze, the mayor of Tbilisi and secretary general of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday addressed recent statements made by Mamuka Mdinaradze, the candidate for minister of state. Mdinaradze recently claimed the existence of a recording involving Igor Blaževič from the Prague Civil Society Centre, which suggests attempts to organise civil unrest within the country.
In his remarks, Kaladze emphasised that this is not an isolated incident, noting that Georgia has faced multiple attempts by various groups to orchestrate a “revolutionary scenario”.
“Unfortunately, this is not the first case when certain individuals conducted training related to a coup and confrontation in the country. A few months ago, we heard a specific video recording referring to the implementation of a revolutionary scenario. It was presented as if they were helping parents of children suffering from serious illnesses. In reality, there was talk of bloodshed. Society sees that external actors are involved. They are not allowing Georgia to remain at peace. Caution is necessary. I thank the relevant services for being on high alert”, he said.
He added that coordinated and effective work by various state services is essential to maintaining calm in the country.
