Giorgi Kakhiani, the vice speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on Thursday said the country remains open to dialogue with the European Union and expressed hope that “common sense will prevail sooner or later”, leading to a more constructive relationship based on mutual understanding.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kakhiani criticised the practice of passing resolutions that contain what he described as "completely unfair" premises. He argued it is improper to demand accountability from Georgia based on documents that do not accurately reflect the reality on the ground.
“Such a policy, which implies breaking off relations with Georgia and suspending negotiations, is supported by some countries. However, the trend shows that the number of states recognising that this approach toward Georgia is incorrect and that dialogue is necessary is steadily increasing”, he said.
“I hope that, sooner or later, this common sense will yield results. We are ready for dialogue. It is wrong to adopt a resolution with entirely unfair content and then demand that we respond to it”, Kakhiani concluded.
