Kakha Kaladze, the mayor of Tbilisi and secretary general of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday said that Georgia’s ongoing economic development is a direct result of the government's commitment to maintaining peace.
Kaladze’s remarks came after the International Monetary Fund released its long-term global economic outlook, highlighting Georgia as a top-tier performer in both historical progress and future projections. According to the data, Georgia is positioned to be a global leader in the growth of real GDP per capita and Purchasing Power Parity.
He emphasised that the positive growth projections for Georgia are no coincidence, linking financial stability directly to the country's refusal to be drawn into regional conflicts.
“Forecasts related to Georgia are not coincidental. There is an explanation for this. When we talk about the country’s economic development and progress, all of this brings peace. A large part of society clearly sees and values the price Georgia has paid to maintain peace. Despite everything, we had and still have a very firm and principled position that Georgia’s and the Georgian people’s interests must be protected. No one will impose decisions on us or instruct us to open a second front in the country or join sanctions that would be damaging and destructive for our country and economy”, he said.
He added that preserving peace has enabled economic growth and created more opportunities, which in the long term will benefit families that are still facing financial difficulties.
“By maintaining peace, we see that the country is growing economically, moving forward, and more opportunities are emerging. This will give us the ability, in the long-term perspective, for those people and families who are still struggling today to receive the benefits that economic development brings”, Kaladze concluded.
