Irakli Kirtskhalia, the chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Tuesday said it was expected that the Black Sea submarine cable project would be granted the status of a priority project.
Kirtskhalia noted that the significance of the project had been clear since its announcement, extending beyond connectivity to broader energy and geopolitical considerations.
“This decision once again underscores the importance of this historic project. It highlights our geographical location, which has always been crucial for our country. Projects of this scale - especially those related to energy and connectivity - are extremely important. From the moment the project was announced, even when discussions were limited to the design phase, we all understood how vital it would be not only for our country, but also for Europe”, the ruling party official said.
He added that the decision to grant the initiative priority status did not come as a surprise.
“It was expected that it would receive priority project status. I am confident that this project will proceed with dignity befitting its significance”, he concluded.
The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union have granted the Black Sea submarine cable project the status of a project of mutual interest, highlighting its strategic role in strengthening regional energy links and connectivity between Europe and the South Caucasus.
