Davit Matikashvili, the chair of the parliamentary committee on procedural issues and rules, on Monday praised the conduct of the Hungarian parliamentary elections, describing the process as calm and highly participatory. Matikashvili is currently in Hungary as part of an official observation mission.
In his remarks, the official emphasised that it is important for the Georgian authorities to further deepen relations between the Hungarian and Georgian peoples and governments.
“The parliamentary elections in Hungary have concluded. According to the central election commission, 99% of the votes have been counted. The opposition alliance Tisza has delivered a convincing victory”, he said.
Matikashvili noted that the head of the Georgian government has already extended congratulations to the winning party on behalf of the Georgian people and the government. He emphasised that maintaining a strong partnership with Hungary remains a priority for Georgia.
“The main thing is that the Hungarian people have expressed their choice, voting for the political force they trust to form a new government and manage Hungary's domestic and foreign policy. It is important for us that the bond between the Hungarian and Georgian people, as well as our respective governments, continues to strengthen”, he concluded.
