Hungary is holding parliamentary elections today, with polling stations opening at 06:00 local time. A Georgian parliamentary delegation observing the vote has already visited several polling stations and monitored the voting process. According to Davit Matikashvili, the chair of the parliamentary committee on procedural issues and rules, the situation so far has been calm and peaceful, with no notable incidents reported.
Speaking to journalists in Hungary, Matikashvili said that citizens are able to freely express their will and vote for the political force they support.
He noted that Hungary is currently in the global spotlight and claimed that there is certain pressure from EU bureaucracy favouring a specific political force.
The official emphasised that it is important for the Hungarian people to make independent decisions without external influence or interference.
Matikashvili also stated that it is important for EU countries to have governments that share values such as family traditions, protection of national sovereignty, and other traditional directions aligned with the policies of Georgia’s government.
Since early morning, the Georgian parliamentary delegation has been observing the 2026 parliamentary elections in Hungary at various polling stations across the country.
