Irakli Mezurnishvili, the first deputy chair of the Georgian Parliament’s committee on sectoral economy and economic policy, on Friday alleged visible attempts of external interference in Hungary’s parliamentary elections, drawing parallels with recent developments in Georgia.
In his remarks, Mezurnishvili noted that signs of outside interference in Hungary’s elections were evident, noting similarities to what he characterised as external involvement during Georgia’s recent parliamentary elections.
“Attempts at external interference are clearly visible here, especially from Brussels”, he said.
“Of course, this is noteworthy. I wish Hungary peace and stability. We will observe the ongoing election processes. It is very important to note that Hungary, especially recently, has always supported Georgia - even when there were attempts to punish our country absolutely undeservedly. At those times, Hungary always stood guard over our country’s interests”, Mezurnishvili noted.
He further highlighted Hungary’s role as a consistent ally, stating that the nation has “always stood guard over the interests” of Georgia during difficult political periods.
Georgian MPs will observe Hungary’s parliamentary elections within the framework of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. At the invitation of the Hungarian side, another group from the Georgian parliamentary delegation is already in Budapest as part of a parliamentary observation mission.
