Archil Gorduladze, the chair of the Georgian Parliament’s legal affairs committee, on Tuesday emphasised the necessity of a fundamental shift within the European Union, stating that it is vital for “Europe to return to the EU”.
Gorduladze made these remarks in response to a recent article published by POLITICO, which highlights the growing failures of European foreign policy - ranging from the complexities of funding for Ukraine to fragmented responses regarding regional conflicts.
The chair argued that the EU has drifted away from its foundational principles, stressing that a return to “true European origins” is essential for the bloc's future.
“It is important that they return to truly European foundations: the protection of human rights, the rule of law, non-interference in the affairs of other countries, and most importantly, the making of sovereign decisions. Unfortunately, we do not see any of this. When our team, together with the Georgian people, makes such decisions, we often become the targets of particular blackmail, intimidation, and pressure; however, all of this is, of course, destined to fail”, he concluded.
