Kakha Kaladze, the mayor of Tbilisi and secretary general of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday said that the messages and attitudes observed in recent contacts between Georgian and US officials provided grounds for optimism.
In his remarks, Kaladze noted that the Georgian authorities were ready to start relations from a clean slate.
“The attitudes, the messages, including the phone conversation between the prime minister and [US secretary of state] Marco Rubio, give us reason for optimism that relations will start from a clean slate. The Georgian government is ready for this”, he said.
“We have spoken many times about how the previous [US] administration behaved. Their statements were based solely on falsehoods, blackmail, and insincerity, which was categorically unacceptable to us”, the official continued.
Kaladze concluded by emphasising that the Georgian side wanted partnership and friendship with the United States and was ready to start relations from a clean slate.
