Irakli Kirtskhalia, the chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Thursday accused the domestic opposition of deliberately attempting to destabilise the country, deepen internal divisions, and undermine both peace-focused policy and the national economy.
Speaking on the political talk show Imedi Live, the parliamentary majority leader said that opposition actors were acting with a clear objective to heighten tensions within Georgia amid an already volatile regional environment.
“They have a specific assignment - to escalate the situation in Georgia as much as possible, to divide society, to somehow threaten our peace-focused policy, and to create risks for our economy”, Kirtskhaliа noted.
He emphasised that the broader regional context remains highly unstable, warning that the threat of conflict has not diminished.
“Our region is effectively in flames. No one can say today that the risk of war has decreased. On the contrary, the global situation is extremely tense”, he continued.
He further added that the ruling team remains under intense pressure precisely because it prioritises the safety of citizens and their families.
“We think about our children, our parents, our brothers and sisters - and that is exactly why we are under unprecedented attacks”, he concluded.
