Irakli Kadagishvili, the chair of the Georgian Parliament’s regional policy and self-government committee, on Thursday addressed recent statements made by domestic NGO members before the Dutch Parliament, accusing them of deliberately attempting to undermine the country.
“They serve both the sponsors and the beneficiaries of speculation, aiming to pressure the West into imposing restrictions or adopting policies that would harm Georgia”, the official said.
He argued that these groups believe they lack a positive agenda to win over the public.
“They think that unless the country is damaged - through economic hardship or threats to public interest - the population will never see them as a viable governing force”, he concluded.
This critique comes after NGO leaders addressed the Parliament of the Netherlands. Notably, Eka Gigauri emphasised the importance of sanctions and called for the identification of additional restrictive mechanisms.
According to the ruling leadership, the opposition and its affiliates are prioritising a change in power, viewing domestic instability as a strategic advantage.
