Thea Tsulukiani, the vice speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on Wednesday called for a more nuanced view of the European Parliament, stating that not all of its members should be judged uniformly, as alternative opinions are increasingly being voiced in support of Georgia’s statehood and freedom.
In her interview with Imedi TV, Tsulukiani noted that some members of the European Parliament were being criticised by their colleagues for labeling what she described as anti-democratic processes as democratic.
“Some are calling democratic processes anti-democratic, and these evaluations are made solely based on what they personally like, or what instructions they have received, or even financial interests”, the official said.
Tsulukiani emphasised that differing opinions are present within the European Parliament and suggested that as internal politics in various European countries evolve, more voices advocating what she described as “truth” will emerge.
She also noted that absolute objectivity cannot be expected in any parliamentary body, adding that diversity of opinion is natural given the number of representatives. However, she expressed hope that the European Parliament would become more objective over time.
