Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday held a meeting with Alejandro Hajdenberg, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, to discuss key aspects of ongoing cooperation between Georgia and the Fund.
The discussion highlighted the strong partnership between the Georgian government and the IMF, as well as the Fund’s continued support for the country, particularly in the areas of fiscal policy and structural reforms.
The parties also reviewed Georgia’s economic growth trends. It was noted that over the past five years, the country has maintained an average annual economic growth rate of 9.3%, with the positive dynamics continuing into the current year.
Kobakhidze emphasised that his government’s economic policy is focused on maintaining macroeconomic stability, advancing structural reforms, and implementing strategic infrastructure projects.
Among these are the Black Sea submarine cable project and the development of the Anaklia deep-sea port. Special attention was given to the comprehensive reform of state-owned enterprises, which is expected to generate savings of tens of millions of lari, to be reinvested into the sector’s development.
