Rati Ionatamishvili, the chair of the parliamentary committee on human rights protection and civil integration, on Sunday strongly condemned recent incidents involving attacks on the Church, stating that anyone who opposes Georgia’s traditions and core national and religious institutions will ultimately be defeated by the Georgian people.
Speaking while assessing cases of alleged attacks on the Church by radical groups, Ionatamishvili emphasised that such actions are neither accidental nor spontaneous. According to him, they are part of a long-term, pre-planned campaign orchestrated by external forces.
“Attacks on the Church by radicals are certainly neither accidental nor spontaneous. This is part of a long-term campaign planned by their patrons a long time ago. Another matter is that this plan is not destined to be implemented and is doomed to fail. However, the fact that these individuals, even after recently witnessing how faith united all of Georgia, still attempt to attack the Church, speaks to their spiritual degradation”, the official said.
“Accordingly, anyone who dares to oppose our traditions and our sacred national and religious institutions will, of course, be defeated by the Georgian people”, Ionatamishvili concluded.
