Danilo Della Valle, a member of the European Parliament, on Wednesday emphasised that the Georgian people should determine their own future without dictation from Brussels or Washington.
Speaking to Imedi TV ahead of a scheduled debate on Georgia in the European Parliament, Della Valle highlighted the importance of maintaining relations between the European Union and Georgia while respecting the country’s sovereignty.
“The most important thing for us is that the European Union maintains its relationship with Georgia. Of course, we cannot dictate what Georgian laws should address. However, we always support the protection of human rights. We support improving democracy in all states that are close to the European Union”, he said.
The MEP also stressed that the Georgian people themselves should determine the country’s political direction.
“We believe that the Georgian people should decide their own future themselves, not Brussels or Washington. We must work toward dialogue with the Georgian government. We should stop interfering in Georgia’s affairs because it is not our business”, Della Valle concluded.
