Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said the government possesses information indicating that certain individuals are acting against Georgia’s national interests, in remarks over reports, according to which, Nino Lomjaria, the founder of the NGO Georgian European Orbit, held a meeting at the German embassy, where she lobbied for the restriction of the EU visa-free travel for Georgian citizens as a measure to exert pressure on the Georgian government.
Kobakhidze noted that “these individuals are engaged in activities against the national interests and they do not hide it, however, there are also confidential meetings”.
“We have our own information regarding various issues about how these individuals - specifically this person - are working against Georgia’s national interests. This is information we possess, and there are additional details that further confirm it. Their activities against our national interests are clearly visible to the wider public. They do this openly and do not hide it, although there are also undisclosed meetings where the same matters are discussed as those they pursue publicly - they directly act against Georgia and its national interests”, he said.
“If anyone is violating the Vienna Convention, it is the German ambassador, and there are numerous facts confirming this. There are also other ambassadors who violate the Vienna Convention. Therefore, references to the Vienna Convention from their side are absolutely irrelevant”, the PM concluded.
