New details have emerged regarding a closed-door meeting involving Nino Lomjaria, the founder of the NGO Georgian European Orbit, members of the United National Movement’s New Union, and European diplomats.
According to reports by Imedi TV, the meeting, held at the German embassy, featured a series of controversial statements aimed at the Georgian public and international relations.
Nino Lomjaria was quoted as saying, “[Georgian] people must be punished with [visa restrictions]; nothing else works, it’s a fact”.
The German ambassador Peter Fischer hosted the group, while the EU ambassador reportedly joined the discussion remotely.
Members of the opposition are urging European officials to act quickly. Their rationale, according to sources, is a fear that “Ivanishvili is settling terms with the Americans”.
The secrecy of the meeting was compromised when Imedi TV crews arrived on the scene. In a move described by onlookers as an attempt to avoid public scrutiny, Peter Fischer placed Nino Lomjaria in his personal vehicle and escorted her out through the back exit of the embassy.
