Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the first vice speaker of the Parliament, on Thursday said the domestic opposition was aware that high-level meetings of the parliamentary delegation in the United States, including at the White House and the United States Department of State, were not merely symbolic but represented specific steps that created a foundation for developing relations between the two countries.
In his remarks, Volski noted that radical opposition figures see these developments and react with hysteria.
“It is alarming and shocking that there are people in Georgia who believe the country should not breathe freely or feel any sense of relief until certain problems faced by Rasa Juknevičienė and Marta Kos are resolved. We must look at all this calmly - they have their own interests. Their interest is to somehow divert Russia’s aggression, including towards Georgia. Our interest is to prevent this, and the clash of interests causes this hysteria. In the confrontation of interests, a healthy political force prevails”, he said
“Criticism of this visit and any other action that does not bring dividends to Georgia should be viewed as the treacherous behavior of people who lack patriotism”, Volski concluded.
