Addressing citizens concerned about the current “geopolitical chaos”, Levan Makhashvili, the chair of the Georgian Parliament’s European integration committee, on Wednesday assured the public that Georgia would maintain its trajectory of “peace and unprecedented economic growth”.
Speaking during a plenary session, Makashvili emphasised that modern geopolitical conflicts were fought not just over land or resources, but over the truth, warning that misinformation was a tool used to manipulate populations into serving foreign interests.
“In geopolitical conflicts, the struggle is not only over land or resources, but over truth- that is, over people’s minds. We see that if people are misled, there is no need to enter a country with tanks; people will act in ways that serve foreign interests. Truth is the best shield against this”, the official said.
He further argued that this is the primary reason for the “frenzied attacks” on media outlets such as Imedi TV and POSTV, stressing these platforms are targeted because they “serve the truth”.
“Therefore, despite the subversive steps of the irresponsible opposition, attempts to drag the country into an adventure, and cheap hybrid or information operations, there will be peace in Georgia, and the country will continue normal development because, fortunately, it is governed by a responsible government. With the support of the people, the authorities will not allow anyone to trade Georgia’s peace for someone else’s war”, Makhashvili concluded.
