Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the first vice speaker of the Parliament, on Monday addressed the country's current political climate and regional security, taking a firm stance against the opposition's rhetoric and accusing them of wishing for instability while misrepresenting the government's foreign policy.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Volski emphasised that the accusations leveled against the government regarding a “pro-Russian” shift are entirely unfounded. According to him, neither the Georgian public nor the current administration deserves the criticism coming from the opposition.
“The opposition dreamed of a situation similar to Nepal, but neither Georgian society nor the authorities deserve even a single assessment we hear from them, claiming that we have a pro-Russian course”, he said.
The vice-speaker highlighted that maintaining national stability is the government's highest priority, especially given the volatile global and regional landscape.
“It is of paramount importance to us that there is no development or deployment of nuclear weaponry, and that groups like Hezbollah and similar entities do not pose a threat to stability. Our opponents are planning and attempting to implement a policy that would somehow make Georgia a part of this great chaos, confrontation, falling bombs, and fire”, the official continued.
He also emphasised the importance of close consultations with Armenia and Azerbaijan, noting that South Caucasus countries must take positive steps toward one another and consolidate their efforts.
“Our consultations with Armenians and Azerbaijanis are especially important. The countries of the South Caucasus must definitely take positive steps towards each other, unite their efforts. We must also maintain the growth rate in the economic sector, and it is especially important to maintain stability so that business investments do not stop”, he concluded.
