Georgian president Mikheil Kavelashvili on Tuesday doubled down on Georgia’s commitment to a peaceful and sincere dialogue regarding the country’s Russian-occupied regions, stating that Georgia will “certainly be reunified”.
In his interview with the Georgian Public Broadcaster, Kavelashvili emphasised that despite the current occupation of Georgian territories, the nation remains a sovereign and independent actor focused on reconciliation with its citizens in Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region.
“Today our territories are occupied, but we face a different reality - we are an independent, sovereign country. In the two regions where we constantly maintain our position, our Ossetian and Abkhaz brothers and sisters reside. Our declared peace policy - both at the international level and toward our brothers and sisters - is sincere and open-hearted: we want to live together in a united Georgia, and we will do everything to ensure this process succeeds. I believe we are proving this through our actions as well. Of course, we share a common history; we have walked together for many years, and I hope that sooner or later, this act will certainly take place -Georgia will be reunified”, the president said.
