Davit Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and chair of the Georgian Parliament’s committee on procedural issues and rules, on Sunday said the domestic transparency law proved to be the shield that protected the country’s sovereignty and became a barrier for Georgia’s enemies seeking to overthrow the democratically elected Government.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Matikashvili noted that it has been repeatedly confirmed, through admissions by senior US officials, that US security services were used in various countries, including Georgia, to advance their own interests.
The official claimed that individuals employed and paid within the NGO sector were part of an agent network.
“When we see attempts to romanticise the throwing of Molotov cocktails and efforts to label violence as freedom of speech and expression - once again misleading society - this, too, represents a segment of intelligence operations: ideological conditioning, portraying violence as part of democracy, and subsequently disinforming the public and making it easily usable for any purpose desired not by the Georgian people, but by those issuing instructions from abroad”, he said.
“The transparency law proved to be the shield that protected the country’s sovereignty. It became an obstacle for Georgia’s enemies, preventing attempts to overthrow the democratically elected Government”, Matikashvili concluded.
