In light of the unpredictable global situation, where each actor primarily pursues its own strategic interests, it is crucial to fully safeguard and protect Georgia’s national interests, said on Tuesday Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili during a parliamentary address.
Kavelashvili highlighted that the essence of Georgia’s pragmatic and multi-vector foreign policy is the defence of peace and independence.
“The essence of our pragmatic and multi-vector foreign policy is the protection of peace and independence. Georgia pursues a policy of peace, and we have proven this through our actions - actions that are fundamentally important not only for our country but for the security of the entire region”, the President told the legislative body.
He noted that, given the current international environment, Georgia has the potential to become a key country for implementing international projects if it acts effectively. This includes promoting economic integration across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, strengthening the South Caucasus’ status as a regional hub, and intensifying connections with partner countries.
“In this regard, the government took significant steps in 2025. I also highlight my visits to Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, which aimed to deepen relations with neighboring countries and strengthen regional peace”, he continued.
“I would also note my friendly and official visit to Serbia, as well as the recent visit from the President of Croatia, with whom we established a friendly and productive relationship. Such cooperation creates new perspectives for future relations. The visit to the United States and the UN was especially important. We used this platform to reiterate our main message: Georgia is fully ready for a close relationship based on respect for sovereignty, mutual interests, and mutual benefit”, Kavelashvili said.
According to the President, when discussing foreign policy, Georgia’s relations with the European Union and the United States are of particular importance.
“When speaking about foreign policy, of course, our relations with the European Union and the United States are important. It is no secret that, especially after the start of the war in Ukraine, European bureaucracy has been rudely interfering in our country’s internal affairs and applying double standards. Apparently, they still find it difficult to accept that Georgia is a sovereign and independent state. They perceive our country as part of their geopolitical project, within which Georgia must fulfill specific goals they have set. They will have to accept that Georgia is an independent, sovereign, and dignified state”, the President said.
“As for the United States, we have expressed full readiness to restore our strategic partnership and start relations from a clean slate. This is reflected in the proposed Partnership Roadmap, which details the interests of both countries. Our visions align in many areas, and we will carefully observe how developments unfold, especially given today’s complex and unpredictable global geopolitical environment”, he concluded.
