Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Saturday accused the Baltic States of unfairly criticising Georgia while maintaining record exports to Russia during the ongoing war.
In his remarks, Machavariani argued that over the past four years, the Baltic States have repeatedly issued what he described as baseless and unsubstantiated criticisms of Georgia, even as trade ties with Russia continued at unprecedented levels.
“The Baltic States have distinguished themselves over the past four years by making baseless and unsubstantiated criticisms of our country. At the same time, these countries have maintained record levels of exports to Russia during this war”, he said.
The official further highlighted that representatives of the Baltic States have, in his view, engaged in non-standard practices and even circumvented international sanctions.
“They have been observed circumventing sanctions. There have been several instances where they have assisted major suppliers from the Baltic Sea. Now, apparently, the ambassador of [Estonia] is being transferred to Armenia. This changes nothing for our country, and we lose nothing because of it. They are simply continuing, through their actions, to damage the relationship between the two countries”, Machavariani concluded.
It is known that Estonia is transferring its ambassador from Georgia to Armenia, leaving a temporary chargé d’affaires in Tbilisi.
