Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday discussed Georgia-US relations, saying that the substance of dialogue is more important than holding meetings for the sake of meetings.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kaladze noted that the new US administration had inherited a very difficult and bad legacy, which was well known to the Georgian people - an unfair attitude toward Georgia.
The official recalled the statements made by the Biden administration in recent months, describing them as an unprecedented and shameful attack on the Georgian state, its independence, and sovereignty.
“These were completely unfair statements, saturated solely with lies and falsehoods. I am very pleased that Marco Rubio directly said they inherited a very difficult and bad legacy and that the situation needs to be reset and renewed”, Kaladze said.
He stressed that the Georgian Government was ready to start relations from a new page and carry out a reset.
“We need partners, we need friends, and our independence and sovereignty must be respected. We are a small country, but with a great past and history. A fair attitude toward Georgia and respect for the Georgian people are of principled importance to us. I am confident that relations will definitely be reset”, Kaladze concluded.
