Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Tuesday emphasised that certain foreign actors treated Georgia’s sovereign rights as problematic, often prioritising their subjective interests over Georgia’s national security.
In her remarks, Botchorishvili explained that some external actors judged Georgia’s domestic decisions differently than they would for other countries, criticising laws adopted by Georgia’s legitimate Government even when those laws aligned with the country’s security and societal interests.
“There were subjective interests regarding Georgia, which were directly related to our security. There were actors for whom the exercise of Georgia’s sovereign rights was a problem. We saw that Georgia was criticised for passing laws. The adoption of laws by a legitimate Government, by Parliament became a source of criticism, even though these laws stem directly from Georgia’s interests, Georgia’s security interests, and the interests of our society”, she said.
The Foreign Minister noted that such challenges continue today, reflecting a clash between Georgia’s national interests and the agendas of other states.
“Consequently, the same processes are ongoing today. Subjective interests exist, and these countries act according to their own agendas, which very often conflict with our national interests, particularly when we are talking about the security of our country”, she concluded.
