Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Sunday said European integration remained the country’s constitutional objective, although problems within the European Union were evident.
In his interview with Rustavi 2 TV channel, Kobakhidze noted that such values as democracy, human rights, freedom of speech, and media freedom had been devalued within the European Union, and this trend was currently irreversible.
“We must closely observe how developments unfold and hope that the European Union finds the strength to reverse course and that these negative trends change in a positive direction. In such a case, EU membership would certainly be of interest to Georgia”, the PM said.
“Our objective remains unchanged, and everything will be done on our part to fulfill the obligations arising from EU-Georgia relations”, he concluded.
