Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s European Integration Committee, on Friday welcomed the acknowledgment of the problem of foreign interference, noting that it was a real challenge not only for Georgia but for many countries across Europe.
Makhashvili was commenting on the reports, according to which, the Council of Europe has launched efforts to counter foreign interference and has requested Georgia to share its experience.
“It is welcome that this problem has finally been recognised as a real one, not only in Georgia. Many countries across the European continent are facing this challenge”, he noted.
“I hope that this discussion will lay the groundwork not for the hollow, meaningless criticism we so often hear, but for concrete and substantive debates, so that each country, including Georgia, focuses on the problem and seeks ways to address it, rather than engaging in the empty criticism that we frequently hear, including from Council of Europe member states”, Makhashvili concluded.
