Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee, on Thursday commented on an interim report by the US House Judiciary, noting that the report clearly showed how interference occurred in elections held in Europe.
“Of course, this does not come as a complete surprise to us, but it is important to emphasise. In Georgia, some tend to disregard facts unless they are confirmed by foreign sources. That is why we highlight, in this case, what an American lawmaker is saying”, he said.
“One fact is clear, and everyone has seen it: regarding elections held in Europe, there was direct interference and manipulation. Unfortunately, Georgia has experienced this more than most. That is precisely why we need to introduce certain legislative changes to safeguard against such manipulations”, Kadagishvili concluded.
The US House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary has published an interim report titled “The Threat of Foreign Censorship, Part II: Europe’s Decade-Long Campaign for Global Internet Censorship and How It Harms Freedom of Expression in the United States”.
One of the chapters of the report claims that “the European Commission regularly interferes in national elections of EU member states”.
