Commenting on an interim report by the US House Judiciary, Rati Ionatamishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration, on Thursday said that Eurocrats had violated the fundamental principles of democracy by interfering in the elections of sovereign countries.
“We have been talking about this for a long time, based on confirmed facts, and it is very good that similar statements are now being voiced from the United States, from Washington, and that reports are being prepared”, he noted.
“All this means that Eurocrats have betrayed the fundamental principles of democracy by turning interference in the elections of different sovereign countries into a habitual practice in order to advance their own agenda. I believe that such individuals must be held accountable”, Ionatamishvili concluded.
The US House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary has published an interim report titled “The Threat of Foreign Censorship, Part II: Europe’s Decade-Long Campaign for Global Internet Censorship and How It Harms Freedom of Expression in the United States”.
One of the chapters of the report claims that “the European Commission regularly interferes in national elections of EU member states”.
