Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday said Georgia was maintaining strong positions in global rankings, with his Government doing its utmost to leverage the country’s strategic location.
In his remarks during a roundtable session titled The Future of Investments at the 2026 World Governments Summit, Kobakhidze noted that his Government was implementing major investments in infrastructure and connectivity.
“Georgia holds good positions in global rankings in terms of economic policy, security, and, importantly, the conditions for conducting economic activity. Considering our strategic location, we are making every effort to use it to the fullest”, he said.
“Significant capital is being invested in highways, seaports, airports, railways, and digital connectivity. On the Black Sea coast, we plan to construct the Anaklia Deep Sea Port - a highly important project for Georgia. Investments are also being made to ensure modern high-speed highways across the country by 2030”, the PM continued.
Kobakhidze further highlighted that the Georgian Government had modernised the country’s railway network, adding that large-scale investments were also underway in digital connectivity.
“We aim to expand the scope of economic cooperation globally. Currently, Georgia has free trade agreements with more than 40 countries, including EU member states, EFTA countries, China, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. These agreements serve as instruments that support development and further economic growth in Georgia”, the Prime Minister said.
Kobakhidze noted that the country had attracted over $8 billion in investments over the past five years.
“We have attracted more than $8 billion in foreign direct investment over the last five years. For a small country like Georgia, this is a significant achievement. Another important point to reassure economic partners of Georgia’s reliability: the country recently issued $500 million in eurobonds on the London Stock Exchange. Demand for these bonds exceeded supply by 5.5 times, surpassing $2.8 billion. This further demonstrates the strong interest in Georgia and the reliability of our economy”, he concluded.
