With the involvement of all stakeholders, prices will decrease in specific areas that are most important for ordinary citizens, said on Monday Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body.
In his remarks, Machavariani noted that prices for certain products were expected to decrease before April.
“We are not waiting until the end of April, when this work is supposed to be completed. We are confident that in some areas prices will already begin to decline. Overall, we see specific sectors where price reductions are possible”, he said.
“Accordingly, both the Government and Parliament will put in serious effort to ensure that, on the one hand, business remains unaffected, while on the other hand social responsibility is taken into account, and profit is not generated at the expense of ordinary citizens being unable to purchase essential food products”, Machavariani concluded.
Parliament is set to establish a special commission on price regulation. The relevant draft resolution will be submitted to the Bureau on Monday.
