Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday met with representatives of major fuel companies operating in Georgia within the framework of the Government coordination commission on food prices.
During the commission meeting, participants discussed current fuel prices in Georgia and the potential for their reduction.
It was noted that, unlike food products, fuel prices in Georgia are significantly lower compared to European countries. This is partly due to the fact that excise taxes in Georgia are approximately three times lower than those imposed in European states.
Nevertheless, it was emphasised that there was still room for discussion regarding possible price reductions.
The Prime Minister heard the views of fuel company representatives on the current market situation, the functioning of supply chains, and the price formation mechanism.
The meeting was held in a discussion format, and the parties agreed to continue dialogue in a working mode.
Discussions on the prices of food products, medicines, and fuel will move to a parliamentary commission format starting next week.
