Mariam Lashkhi, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee, on Friday criticised the European Union's silence on the violent attacks on the presidential palace, which took place last October.
“Today, the European Union remains silent on all acts of violence, particularly those occurring under the EU flag. This is shameful and directly contradicts the ideology for which the Union was originally established. We witnessed the violence on October 4, including attacks by certain funded “NGOs”, as well as the spread of hate speech -actions that are neither Georgian, national, nor beneficial for the future of our country”, Lashkhi said.
Earlier today, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili also addressed the matter in comments to the media.
“As soon as the EU Ambassador declares that storming the President’s residence is unacceptable, it will strip those individuals, who act under the EU flag, of Brussels’ legitimacy”, Papuashvili said.
