Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Wednesday dismissed Moldovan President Maia Sandu’s recent remarks on Georgia as laughable and hypocritical.
Kirtskhalia commented on Maia Sandu’s address at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), where she spoke about Georgia in the context of Russia’s alleged hybrid influence.
In his remarks, Kirtskhalia claimed Sandu had effectively nullified Moldova’s own sovereignty through her actions and statements, rendering her commentary on Georgia’s independence absurd and unworthy of serious consideration.
“Through her statements and actions, she has annulled her country, its sovereignty. Now, when such a person makes statements about a sovereign and independent country, it’s simply an anecdotal passage”, he said.
The official expressed confidence that Sandu, her allies, and their foreign backers would eventually face accountability.
“We can clearly see who she is and what kind of influence she represents in her own country. I am confident that the time will come when she, her associates, and their patrons will be held accountable - not only for their actions but also for their statements - regarding what they do in their own country and to their own people”, he concluded.
In her address to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Moldovan President Maia Sandu spoke about Russia’s hybrid operations and claimed that Moscow had brought Georgia back into its orbit by exploiting fears of war.
