Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the First Vice Speaker of the Parliament, on Tuesday weighed in on a recent surge in social unrest and public dissatisfaction across Europe, attributing the instability to the lingering consequences of war and a decline in governmental trust.
Volski was commenting on a recent survey conducted by strategic communications firm FGS Global. According to the survey, nearly two-thirds of European respondents (63%) believe that the “best years are behind us”, while 77% think that living in their country will be “more difficult for future generations”.
The Vice Speaker argued that the large-scale protests and deep societal divisions currently seen across the continent are the direct result of policies that “encouraged war”.
“There are problems in Georgia as well, but I repeat once again: it was precisely this European system of common governance and shared platforms that encouraged a significant number of problems in Georgia”, Volski stated.
