Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Tuesday commented on the presentation of Georgia’s 2025 National Report on the State of Human Rights at the United Nations, stressing that Georgia will take into account all advice and recommendations within the framework of its national interests.
“Our delegation is providing the audience with very detailed information about the reforms implemented in Georgia. If there are any biased opinions regarding certain laws, we have seen that these mainly concern the Law on Transparency, which is essential for protecting our country’s sovereignty and security”, the ruling party official said.
He also addressed criticism of the so-called “anti-LGBT propaganda” law, stating that the legislation is important for safeguarding Georgia’s identity. In addition, Machavariani commented on stricter measures related to assemblies and demonstrations, explaining that these regulations aim to prevent road blockages when the number of protesters is insufficient.
The document on human rights in Georgia, prepared with the participation of the executive, legislative and judicial branches, was presented to the United Nations by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Representatives of 110 countries participated in the discussion.
